The Profound alternatives examined here are hitak, Semrush AI Visibility, Otterly.ai, Peec AI and Qwairy. The choice is less about a universal ranking than the method and workflow you need: large-scale analytics, SEO integration, accessible tracking or fine-grained diagnosis of generative answers. hitak publishes this comparison and presents its own platform in preparation; this is not an independent ranking.
Profound has a structured feature set. Comparing alternatives does not imply that it lacks depth: reasons may include budget, required coverage, an existing SEO stack, European data requirements or a different measurement unit. Two legitimate approaches coexist: observing an aggregate metric over a large portfolio and repeating a specific situation before interpreting it.
Best suited to large brands and teams connecting Answer Engine Optimization with research, analysis and production. Profound combines Answer Engine Insights, source and sentiment analysis, competition, prompt exploration, agent tracking and content workflows. Availability depends on the plan, especially for APIs, real-prompt volumes and agents.
As of 16 September 2026, Starter is listed at $99/month on annual billing for 50 prompts, ChatGPT and 100 agent credits; Growth at $399/month on annual billing for 100 prompts, three engines and 400 credits. Enterprise is quoted individually and can cover up to nine engines. Starter therefore does not represent the full platform scope. On 24 February 2026, Profound announced a $96 million Series C and a $1 billion valuation: this is the vendor’s funding announcement, not validation of GEO performance.
What does Profound offer beyond brand tracking?
The offering combines daily prompt and answer tracking, visibility and citation share, sentiment and competition, segmentation by topic, persona, region and platform, source identification, prompt-volume research using real conversations, AI-agent traffic analysis and research or content agents. Ask Profound supports querying data in natural language. These modules serve different uses and are not all included in Starter. A feature labelled causal analysis does not, by its name alone, provide experimental proof of an action’s effect.
- Profound — mature teams; daily runs over a large portfolio; analytics, sources, real prompts and agents depending on plan; $99/month on annual billing for Starter
- hitak — fine-grained diagnosis; repeated observations per strategic cell; evidence, narrative and prioritisation; in preparation, indicative pricing to be confirmed at launch
- Semrush — teams combining SEO and GEO; broad reports and custom daily tracking; continuity with its SEO suite; $99/month per domain for the Toolkit.
- Otterly.ai — small teams; simple daily tracking; citations, audits and quick setup; $29/month for 15 prompts
- Peec AI — marketing and agencies; daily per prompt and model; benchmarking, position, sentiment and sources; $95/month for 50 prompts
- Qwairy — multiple markets; daily, weekly or monthly; coverage and Content Studio; €79/month or €790 billed annually
- Prices are public as of 16 September 2026, without currency conversion; commitments, taxes, options and users must be compared separately.
hitak: measure a state rather than a snapshot
Best suited to organisations seeking an explicit diagnosis, inspectable evidence and prioritised recommendations. hitak, the publisher of this comparison, is launching: its positioning is not that of an already available daily tracker. The tracked brand is the subscription unit. Indicative amounts are €199 for the first tracked brand, then €179 per brand for brands 2 to 10, €159 per brand for brands 11 to 25 and €139 per brand from brand 26 onwards. Each marginal tier applies only to the brands it contains: these are not four flat subscription plan prices. Amounts and commercial terms, including the billing interval, will be confirmed before any subscription.
The central difference is methodological. Hundreds of prompts tracked daily can reveal an overall trend or an aggregate presence share. Yet an isolated answer remains variable: a brand may appear, disappear or be described differently without an identifiable change in its environment. The preprint by Schulte, Bleeker and Kaufmann, submitted on 8 April 2026, studies variation across runs, wording and measurement times. It encourages treating visibility as a distribution rather than a single point.
hitak therefore prioritises repeated observations to inspect a fine-grained state: audience profile, intent and question type. The stated principle is roughly fifteen repetitions per measurement point. This is neither a universal significance threshold nor a precision guarantee for every engine. Interpretation depends on the corpus, observed dispersion and protocol. Frequency remains useful; it simply does not replace depth when examining a specific intent.
Measuring something unstable more often does not make it truer.
The intended workflow connects measurement, analysis and recommendation. Recommendations should link to observations and account, in subsequent cycles, for documented actions and earlier advice rather than mechanically reissue the same plan. This follow-up aims at evolving recommendations, not demonstrated causal attribution. A change observed after an action is not enough to prove that the action caused it.
Third-party engines remain outside hitak’s control. Levers can be prioritised, but no quantified increase, guaranteed citation or result deadline is promised. Transparency also means distinguishing findings, explanatory hypotheses and features actually available. Receive the launch announcement through the newsletter, without reserving early access.
Profound and hitak: two different measurement questions
A strategic cell means a combination of profile × intent × query type. Reading this cell involves not only binary brand presence but also position, context, narrative, associated competitors and sources. Within this narrow scope, variations in an isolated answer remain visible; they do not offset one another as they may in a broad aggregate.
Profound’s internal study “Is once a day enough?”, published on 8 July 2026, compares one and ten daily runs from 1 to 14 June 2026. It covers 753 prompts, seven platforms in the United States and 5,271 configurations. The company reports that aggregate visibility with one run stays within approximately two percentage points of the ten-run result. These are percentage points, not a 2% relative difference.
Moving from one to ten runs reduces the noise standard deviation in this setup by roughly 11% for visibility and 40% for citation share. Retrieved sources therefore add substantial variability. This internal study, not presented as peer-reviewed research, supports Profound’s cadence choice for its aggregate; it does not prove that one daily run is sufficient for every prompt, country or a small corpus of 16 or 32 questions.
Why can aggregation work?
Combining hundreds of answers can partially offset prompt-specific fluctuations. To assess whether average portfolio visibility is rising or falling, frequent single runs per prompt can therefore provide useful information. Ten times as many runs does not mean ten times as much information. Prompt selection and representativeness also matter: a broad but poorly targeted portfolio may not represent actual customers. Conclusions must remain within the scope of the sample and metric studied.
Does irreducible noise invalidate repetition?
No, but two kinds of variation must be separated. Under similar conditions, probabilistic generation, web results and citations change: repetition helps describe this dispersion. Over time, models, retrieval systems, infrastructure and the web actually evolve: repeating on the same day does not remove this drift. Repetition does not freeze an engine or turn correlation into causation. Document the protocol and compare states at a cadence consistent with actions, without promising a universal timescale in weeks.
Depth or frequency: first define what you measure
- Overall presence: a large portfolio and frequent tracking can reveal trends
- Competition: presence share and a daily benchmark illuminate gaps
- Presentation for a specific intent: repetition and narrative analysis help inspect dispersion
- Engine-specific sources: examine answers and links separately
- Action follow-up: compare comparable cycles and document interventions without confusing temporal succession with causality.
Frequency provides a time series; depth better describes a given state when the protocol supports it. This is not a contest between a good and a bad method. A GEO action involves publication, indexing, possible reuse by third parties and potential changes in answers. Daily tracking can detect movement, but does not shorten this chain or guarantee that the brand will be cited.
Semrush AI Visibility: keep GEO within your SEO suite
Best suited to teams already using Semrush that want to connect traditional SEO and AI visibility without adding more tools. AI Visibility Toolkit combines prompt research, brand and competitor analysis, sources, custom Prompt Tracking and an AI-focused site audit. This scope complements SEO data; it does not replace indexing, backlinks, rankings or organic-traffic analysis.
The Toolkit is listed at $99/month per domain with 25 custom prompts and daily tracking; additional user licences are also charged according to the pricing schedule. Semrush One includes 50, 100 or 200 prompts depending on the plan. Database reports, custom tracking and site audits are not one measurement: they use different corpora and cadences. Current documentation describes 317 million prompts and answers across 117 regional databases, according to the vendor’s current figures. These are Semrush-stated volumes, not a guarantee of representativeness for your market.
The documentation distinguishes answers from real queries in its databases, brand-report updates and custom prompt runs. Its appeal is integration into SEO workflows and large-scale exploration. Check countries and engines for each report, billed domains and users, answer provenance and export options before comparing its volume with a prompt tracker or a repeated-observation protocol.
Otterly.ai: get started quickly on a modest budget
Best suited to freelancers, small teams and consultants seeking initial tracking without extensive setup. Lite starts at $29/month for 15 prompts tracked daily. Standard is listed at $189 for 100 prompts and Premium at $489 for 400. The vendor advertises a 15% annual discount; compare the billed amount, currency and taxes rather than a displayed monthly price alone.
Four engines are included: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude are offered as add-ons, so the entry price may not cover your full intended scope. The tool combines brand tracking, cited domains and links, prompt research, GEO audits and recommendations. It suits quick time-to-value and citation monitoring; extensive international coverage requires checking the options.
Peec AI: a readable competitive benchmark
Best suited to SEO, content and marketing teams visualising gaps between brands. Peec AI tracks visibility, position, sentiment and sources. Starter is listed at $95/month for 50 prompts, three selected engines, one project and unlimited users with daily tracking. Pro lists $245 for 150 prompts and Advanced $495 for 350; agency offerings use a separate pricing structure.
The benchmark helps identify questions where competitors appear while your brand is absent, and the sources accompanying those answers. This is useful for prioritising investigation. A presence gap alone does not explain why a competitor is cited. Check included projects and additional-engine costs before splitting a portfolio across clients or markets.
Qwairy: international coverage and a broader workspace
Best suited to multi-market brands and agencies combining monitoring, research and production. Qwairy advertises more than ten engines, over 240 countries and over 45 languages, with daily, weekly or monthly tracking. These vendor-stated scopes should be checked against the models, countries and collection methods actually selected in your contract.
As of 16 September 2026, Starter is listed at €79/month or €790 billed annually; the website shows the annual option as a rounded €65/month equivalent. It includes up to 100 prompts, 1,300 credits, one workspace, Content Studio and an MCP server. Growth is €199/month with five workspaces; Business is €449/month with twenty. API, Looker Studio, crawler analysis and fact-checking features depend on the plan and should not be assumed to be included everywhere.
This is a coherent choice when coverage and multi-client orchestration matter more than a minimal scope. Still check credits consumed by each cadence and engine, differences between user-interface and API collection, and export coverage. Qwairy is a French company, but its privacy policy describes subprocessors and international transfers: this does not justify claiming that all data remains exclusively in Europe.
Can data residency justify an alternative?
Yes, depending on contractual requirements, but European residency and GDPR compliance are not synonyms. Distinguish applicable law, the vendor’s legal establishment, infrastructure, subprocessors and a residency guarantee. Profound’s DPA updated on 13 August 2026 describes processing rules and subprocessors, many located in the United States. Qwairy’s policy also describes processing within and outside the EEA. A French company does not imply exclusively European hosting.
Request current contractual documents, the exact transfer scope, applicable safeguards and export or deletion options. Some organisations may accept this framework; others impose stricter sovereignty conditions. This comparison certifies no vendor’s compliance and does not replace your legal team’s review.
How should you choose a Profound alternative?
Broad analytics and workflows: Profound remains a structured option to examine. Existing SEO stack: Semrush favours continuity. Price or simplicity: Otterly.ai has the lowest entry ticket in this selection; Peec AI emphasises benchmarking and shared reporting. Multiple markets from France or Europe: Qwairy combines coverage and cadence choices, subject to data requirements. Situation-specific diagnosis: hitak is preparing repeated cell-level analysis with evidence and prioritised recommendations. Choose after testing real customer intents, not based on an isolated overall score.
Profound alternatives FAQ
What is the best alternative?
The requirement decides: Semrush for SEO integration, Otterly.ai for budget, Peec AI for benchmarking, Qwairy for coverage and hitak for repeated diagnosis in preparation.
Is Profound right to measure once a day?
Its internal study supports this choice for aggregate visibility across the large portfolio studied. It does not automatically justify a single measurement for an isolated cell, a small question set or every citation metric.
How do Profound and hitak differ?
Profound offers broad coverage, daily tracking and advanced analytics. hitak’s launch positioning prioritises repeated cell-level observations, rich answer analysis and recommendation prioritisation. The two measurement units answer different questions.
Which alternative is cheapest?
Otterly.ai starts at $29/month; Peec AI at $95 and Semrush Toolkit at $99 per domain. Check commitments, add-ons, users and taxes before comparing these entry plans with Enterprise.
No: indexing, technical work, traditional rankings, backlinks and organic traffic remain SEO concerns. Presence in generative answers complements them. Accessible, useful and well-linked content remains the foundation of both approaches.
